Overview
Clever Noggins is a personal project where I explored how AI can support creative work in children’s education. I launched a YouTube channel that delivers fun, engaging learning content for toddlers through original music and playful visuals. The channel is built around the idea of combining early learning principles with AI-assisted tools to create a lightweight and scalable educational media system.
This project allowed me to apply product design thinking beyond digital interfaces, blending storytelling, music, motion, and strategy into a connected learning experience.
The Challenge
I wanted to answer a few key questions through hands-on experimentation:
-
Can AI assist in creating educational content that is engaging and developmentally appropriate?
-
Is it possible to design a media experience that is both entertaining and structured around early learning goals?
-
How can design systems and templates support faster content production for solo creators?
My Role
As a solo creator, I led every part of the project including:
-
Creative Direction: Visual identity, branding, and character development
-
Content Design: Writing educational scripts and shaping the learning structure
-
AI Integration: Generating original music and lyrics using AI tools
-
Production: Storyboarding, animation, editing, and final delivery
-
Channel Strategy: Organizing content to support growth, retention, and accessibility
Approach
AI as a Creative Partner
I used generative music and lyric tools to create songs that teach foundational concepts like the alphabet, shapes, and numbers. I refined each piece to ensure it was rhythmic, clear, and age-appropriate.
Reusable Content Framework
To make the production process sustainable, I designed a modular visual system with reusable templates. This allowed for consistency in style and message, while also making it easier to expand the video library over time.
Sing and Learn Format
I leaned into repetition and rhythm as teaching tools. The content uses song as the primary delivery method, which is known to support vocabulary building, memory, and engagement for early learners.
Product Thinking Applied to Media
Although Clever Noggins is a media project, I approached it like a product. Each video is part of a larger ecosystem where brand, experience, and educational value are connected by design.
Results and Reflections
-
Published original AI-assisted learning videos on YouTube
-
Built a repeatable system to produce new content efficiently
-
Attracted organic engagement from parents and early educators
-
Demonstrated how design and AI can support scalable, creative solo work
-
Created a working model of how educational media can be both delightful and strategic
Key Takeaways
-
AI can support creative workflows, but human direction gives it purpose
-
Design ecosystems are not limited to digital products; they can include content, format, and delivery
-
Curiosity and experimentation are essential for staying ahead of evolving tools and methods
