Originally a brothel during the Klondike Gold Rush, the Red Onion Saloon is now a museum, bar, and restaurant. My dad loves Alaska, so when he was looking for a theme to his new model train set, he chose to miniaturize the town of Skagway, AK. He asked me to build scale models of two iconic buildings, the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway train station and the Red Onion Saloon.
The build started by tracing photos I took on my trip to Alaska. I choose to do my laser project designs in Adobe Illustrator. I cut it on 1/8″ MDF.
The train set is still in progress and looking great, but I don’t want to spoil his unveiling. For now, I would like to share some photos of the first part of the process with the Glowforge laser cutter:
