Almond Syrup

Inspired by the delicious flavor of maraschino cherries (which are cherries in a red sugary almond syrup), this almond syrup is an amazing way to mix things up from original maple syrup. Try it on pancakes, waffles, or crêpes.

1 cup sugar½ cup water1 tablespoon butter¼ teaspoon almond extract
1 Combine the sugar, water, and butter in a small saucepan and stir over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil.
2 Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for about five minutes, stirring once a minute.
3 Add the almond extract and let the syrup sit for a few minutes. Serve with pancakes or waffles.

Notes: If you want a thicker syrup, double the butter, sugar, and almond extract.

Variation: For another way to mix up your syrup, try vanilla.
